摘要

The share of automatic transmissions in Europe has recently been growing driven by the high success of diesel engines, which caused, due to their high torque requirements, problems with many manual transmissions. The current share is estimated as 15% and is not only driven by the luxury car segment. Old disadvantages like high fuel consumption, stumbling shifting performance or slow reaction of the kick-down function are no longer valid for the new generation of 6 and 7-speed automatic transmissions. With more electronic features these new transmissions increase the driving comfort while reducing fuel consumption and allow an adaptation of the shifting characteristics for any driving style. The high performance polymer VICTREX® PEEK™ has been one of the enablers for this technology trend with various applications in the new automatic transmissions.
