The aim of the work was to investigate possibilities of using waste polystyrene for petroleum and carbonic bitumens modifications and assessment of usability of mechanical methods for analysis of obtained compositions. The results present the possibility of waste plastics utilization in, for example road surfaces in asphalts compositions. The conditions of obtaining homogenous and stable mixtures of waste expanded polystyrene and dark hydrocarbon resin (DHR) with the additive of polymer up to 50% w/w and coumarone-indene resin (CIR) with the additive of polymer up to 30% w/w. were worked out. The changes of thermomechanical properties of bitumens modified by polymers were investigated. The possibilities of briquetting of the compositions for using them as binders of, for example, fine coal or wood sawdust for coking were investigated. There were showed that selected and typical research methods for bitumens and polymers can be used. Possibility of using selected research method depends on type and amount of bitumen. The research methods for the compositions of hydrocarbon resins and expanded polystyrene for investigations of the properties like softening point, melting point, impact strength, melt flow index, can be used.
