DETOXIFICATION OF ANATOMY LABORATORY WASTES BY AOP IRON CATALYZED

In this work, were investigated methods for oxidation of wastewater from anatomy laboratory of the university from Santa Cruz do Sul to reduce chemical oxygen demand and toxicity. The first toxic pollutant in this waste is formaldehyde, joint to nitrogen and phosphorous compounds. Advanced oxidation assays include Fe~(2+)/H_2O_2/UV and Fe~(2+)/H_2O_2 + Activated Carbon. The oxidation experiments were realized in colunn photoreactor (util volume of 5 L), operated in semi-batch regimen, in banch unit, with immersion of irradiation tube in concentric position (borossilicate glass). Was used medium pressure mercury vapor lamp (lambda maximun = 360 nm). Efficiency of the oxidation methods was monitored by colour reduction and COD content. The best result were obtained for 20 mg L-1 Fe /100 mg L~(-1) H_2O_2 + 1g L~(-1) Activate Carbon, in 30 minutes of reaction: reduction of 45% of the COD and toxicological unit of 1453 for 425(TU=100/EC50).
