Statewide, more than 670,000 Pennsylvania customers have decided to switch to a competitive generation supplier since the rate cap expiration on December 31, 2010. As customers explore their ability to shop for new suppliers, it is crucial to understand the reasons behind - switching providers, what benefits may accrue from this decision, and the overall effects felt during monthly and yearly billing periods. So, what exactly constitutes a default service rate? What does the transition from capped rates to market-based rates mean? What factors should a customer take into consideration before selecting a competitive generation supplier? This session takes an in-depth look at the history of deregulation in Pennsylvania: From its original, monopolized structure, to the goals and results of the Electric Customer Choice and Competition Act, and finally to the decisions customers face today as the market opens its doors to competition.
