What constituents will have the greatest impact in the development of retail and wholesale markets in the 21st century? What differences will emerge between the regions that have restructured their market place and those that haven't? How will politics, aging infrastructure, tightened environmental regulations, technology, and education affect the consumer throughout the next 20 years? What lies ahead? The future of energy policy is influenced by a number of factors, and the consumer plays the biggest role of all. Empowering oneself with the knowledge to track and understand this changing marketplace is a vital component to understanding this topic from a national and regional perspective. In this session, Glen Thomas, current President of GT Power Group and former Chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, explores how factors such as choice, smart-grid technology, and education can change the role that consumers play in the market place, and how policy at the state, regional, and federal level will address the challenge of building new infrastructure. In a marketplace now driven by choice, it is important to address these key issues arid more in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the trends and developments that consumers will face in the upcoming years. Glen Thomas's extensive background and experience serving the state of Pennsylvania, the Mid-Atlantic region, and even the U.S. Government as a member of the U.S. Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Board provides a significant platform of experience and insight into the ever-changing world of energy policy and its effects on consumers today and in the future.
