Abstract: A cost-effective high heat load mirror based on the compensation for thermal deformation by the bimetallic strip effect has been studied. A theoretical description of the heat loaded bimetallic strip is given. Careful selection of two materials having complementary thermal properties allows efficient correction of thermal bending. Such a system could also be used as a very simple bender by tuning the temperature gradient across the two layers. !17
