Abstract: Analytical expressions for the thermal shock resistance (TSR) of IR missile domes involve a phenomenological stress factor that is not yet available but can be either extracted from the results of aerothermal shock testing or estimated on the basis of model- related considerations. The primary purpose of this contribution is to derive a simple formula for the allowable heat flux at the stagnation point, under conditions such that the boundary-layer flow remains laminar over the entire dome surface. !18
