Abstract: Thermal management has become a limiting problem forboth military and commercial systems. High thermalconductivity graphite fibers provide a breakthrough inthe efficiency of conductive cooling. The fibers alsohave exceedingly high specific modulus and a negativecoefficient of thermal expansion; these properties canbe used to tailor the thermal expansion of compositematerials to virtually any required level. This paperdiscusses the nature of the fibers, the translation offiber properties into composites including metal, organic, and carbon matrix. Emphasis is on applicationsfor the resulting high thermal conductivity composites. These applications include electronic packaging, aircraft, and spacecraft. !6
