It has been shown, that polymeric silicones are excellent precursors for highly reactive amorphous silica, which in combination with suitable filler compounds may constitute oxide/silicate ceramics with near-net shape potential. Complex-shaped parts can be realized when utilizing appropriate 2-component systems, enabling high filler loadings, sufficiently low viscosity and setting temperature. Suitable polymers are based on vinyl-functionalized systems, allowing filler loadings up to 50 vol% and yielding paste-like or moldable compounds with setting temperatures as low as 25 ℃.
