In order to build fatigue lifetime diagram, a laminated C/C composite [0/60/-60]_n was loaded with a sinusoidal cyclic loading at a frequency of 1Hz. The difficulty of this study was in the determination of the fatigue limit, because of the large scattering observed in the number of cycles to failure when the same maximum stress level was applied to the specimens. To solve this problem, a new concept called the master-curve was defined. This concept is based on an analysis of the primary tensile curve, largely scattered from one specimen to another, which directly controls the accuracy of the determination of the cyclic fatigue limit. Some tensile parameters such as the elastic modulus, the failure stress and the non-linear strain to failure were chosen for constructing the master-curve. This concept was then applied at the first cycle of cyclic fatigue tests to determine the real lifetime diagram.
