Coaling free SiTiCO (Tyranno~®) fiber-reinforced SiC matrix plale composites by PIP process has been examined. Plain weave (PW) and eight harness satin weave (8HSW) composites are fabricated. Original SiTiCO fiber and two kinds of surface-modified fibers are used: C-SiTiCO and C/SiC-SiTiCO fibers. It is found that the tensile fracture behavior of the composite strongly depends on the interfacial chemistry of the fiber. The strengths of the surface-modified fiber-reinforced plale composites are significantly improved compared to original fiber composite. On the other hand, when the surface chemistry is the same, only slight difference is recognized on the mechanical behavior between PW and 8HSW composites.
