This paper gives some ideas and recommendations to perform long term mechanical tests at high temperatures in the best conditions, specially in the case of ceramic matrix composites and monolithic ceramics, when accurate results are required. Particular attention is given to the load alignment, the problems of the thermal gradient and its thermal stability, the measurement of the precise temperature, the problem of the thermocouple position, of the strain measurement, of the surface state of the specimens.
