UK historic vessels have no official protection and National Historic Ships is working for greater recognition, so that ifrnDCMS’ bid to include the Heritage Protection Bill in the next session succeeds, we can seek official status for thernRegister of Historic Vessels. We are also promoting spot-listing for the National Historic Fleet, offering a breathingrnspace to consider alternative futures for high risk vessels. Additionally, we are concerned about lack of funding and arerncalling for an Endowment Fund to sustain major projects. This paper provides an overview of these concerns, analysingrnthe future of UK historic vessels. It will incorporate issues from the key topics of: recording and deconstruction,rnpreservation afloat or dry, and maintenance of craft skills and training.
