In the Mattagami Lake Dam development project, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) isrnstudying the feasibility of developing of a small hydroelectric plant in immediate vicinityrnof the company's control dam. The preliminary field studies had revealed the existencernof fish spawning downstream of the dam in the area where the proposed Powerhouserntailrace is to be located. In the development process, Department of Fisheries andrnOceans Canada (DFO) and Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) requested a numericalrnstudy to assess the impact of the proposed tailrace configurations on fish spawning.rnOPG has commissioned BPR-Energy (formerly named SCP-BPR) to conduct thernnumerical modeling study.rnIt was decided to base the study on a 2D hydraulic modeling of a section of the riverrndownstream of the dam in the river spawning area based on a finite-element method.
