We describe four pixel-based classifiers that wererndeveloped to identify events in hyperspectral datarnonboard a spacecraft. One of the classifiers wasrndeveloped manually by a domain expert, while thernother three were developed using machine learningrnmethods. The top two performing classifiers werernuploaded to the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) spacecraftrnand are now running on the satellite. Classificationrnresults are used by the Autonomous SciencecraftrnExperiment of NASA's New Millennium Program onrnEO-1 to automatically target the spacecraft to collectrnfollow-on imagery. This software demonstrates thernpotential for future deep space missions to identifyrnshort-lived science events and make decisions onboard.
