A solvent-free resin, coated on a substrate that was not very resistant to either solvent or heat, was cured by electron-beam (EB) irradiation. This was in order to prepare a thermal dye and resin transfer receiving layer for a totally chlorine-free identification IC card. The localization of silicone on the surface of the receiving layer improves the releasability of the ink ribbon from the receiving layer during printing. The localization of the silicone was carried out in a unique way, as described below, because this method does not include a drying process during which the silicone would bleed out onto the surface of the layer. The coated resin was covered with a silicone-coated PET film, which was then EB-irradiated. The removal of the PET film left the silicone on the surface of the cured resin layer, namely the receiving layer. The solvent-free resin designed to improve the printability consists of two components: an acrylate monomer with a hexahydro-phthalimide structure, as a main component, and a urethane diacrylate oligomer with a unique urethane groups structure.
