摘要

In the later years the electrical market has been flooded with wind and solar energy, providing a lot of power but poor electrical auxiliary services. Hydropower plants all over the world have been key in balancing this by providing frequency control capabilities, inertia and compensation capabilities to the network. Some plants have gone further and reduced the technical minimum in order to provide higher control margins. The risks and benefits of taking this path are discussed in this paper. A case that derived in premature failure is exposed.
