In this paper, the design of a linearly polarized substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna operating at a frequency of 54 GHz is proposed. Gain achieved is approxiamtely 7.8 dBi. A comparative study based on the introduction of slots in the basic SIW cavity design and how it affects the resonant frequency and impedance bandwidth is done. TE104 is the mode under consideration. The substrate used is RT/Duroid 3003. The simulation is carried out in ANSYS HFSS and only simulated results are presented. The fabrication of the antenna is under process.
