Construction and Selection of Transmission Modes for Renewable Energy of Western China in the Future

Distribution of renewable energy and load centers in China is geographically reverse. It is very necessary to transfer large amount of electric power in Western China with long-distance transmission technology. Based on distribution characteristics of western resources and the outgoing power flow in the future, a construction method of transmission modes is proposed. According to this method and the development trend of transmission technology, four specific transmission modes, i.e. UHVAC transmission mode, UHVDC transmission mode, DC grid mode and superconducting transmission mode in Western China, are constructed. The advantages and disadvantages of each mode are also presented. After that, a mode selection model based on the analytic hierarchy process is established to select the most likely mode in 2030 and 2050. Finally, through mathematical calculation, the recommended transmission modes for renewable energy of Western China in 2030 and 2050 are proposed.
