The paper describes extensions to VHDL to support system-levelnbehavioral modeling by providing more abstract forms of communicationnand concurrency than those currently in the language. The reportnsummarizes design objectives and issues that must be considered inndeveloping such extensions, and presents definitions of our extensions.nThe extensions for communication consist of channel types, channelnobjects, dynamically allocated channels, and message passing statements.nThe extensions for concurrency consist of process declarations andnstatic and dynamic process instantiation statements. Use of thenextensions is illustrated with examples
