Real-time transactions, in addition to preserving consistency ofnthe database as in traditional transactions, have to meet the deadlines.nScheduling real-time transactions in parallel database systems has notnreceived much attention. This paper focuses on real-time transactionnscheduling in shared-nothing parallel database systems. We evaluate thenperformance of a new priority-based scheduling policy, in which allnscheduling decisions are made locally by each node. In contrast, severalnother algorithms, proposed for the distributed systems, requirencommunication among the nodes to globally synchronize their local blocknand abort decisions. Such synchronization can deteriorate performance asnreal-time transactions will have to meet deadlines. We use miss ratio asnthe performance metric and show that, in general, the new policynprovides a superior performance for the workload and system parametersnconsidered in this study
