The application of assistive technology has opened many doors (both literally and figuratively) for people withrndisabilities in the workplace. The trend toward automated manufacturing technology (AMT) may similarly increasernthe employment potential of people with disabilities in manufacturing. A review of current industry-based literaturernreveals that the physical requirements for machine operation are reduced by the use of AMT, employers are morernaware of employee abilities, and manufacturers are seeking to simplify production operations. This combination ofrnreduced functional requirements, attention to human abilities, and simplification of production operations producesrnan environment conducive to employment of people with disabilities.
