Erwinia carotovora is a causal agent of soft rot in the carrot. This disease causes severe root losses in the crop, mainly during post-harvest storage but also in the field in the late growing season. Of the many cultivars screened in our department between 1988 and 1990, we found none that was resistant [1]. Consequently, we started to look for sources of resistance genes among wild Daucus carota subspecies.
