A mission of the Colleges of Business is to prepare students to graduate with good decision-making skills and higher-order cognitive skills so as to enhance their performance in the real world. This study hypothesizes that GPA enables or prohibits (depending upon the level) students' higher-order cognitive skills development. This study also hypothesizes that GPA influence students' intrinsic learning and motivation, which has been shown to facilitate students' higher-order cognitive skills, and thus GPA should play a strong role in admitting students into the College of Business. We test these hypotheses by conducting an experiment where students at two different large universities in the southeastern United States were provided multimedia instructional materials that have been proven to develop and improve higher-order cognitive skills.
