摘要

The technical possibilities are not the determining factor on what applications of information technology we shall use in 1996 and 2010. Many prototypes and innovations for integrated, effective information systems already exist. However, most of the applications are not widely used because they are expensive and complicated. The userfriendly and cheap enough or subsidized new systems will become commonly used in information handling.rnThe Finnish Council for Scientific Information and Research Libraries (TINFO) funded a Delphi study on the extent of use of information technology in the years 1996 and 2010. A panel of Finnish experts was interviewed in two consecutive rounds. As a comparison group eleven international experts were also interviewed. Visions for the years 1996 and 2010 were collected from the predictions and estimations given by both groups of experts.
