This paper presents a view of the potential role for CD-ROM in information delivery services in information isolated areas. "Information isolation" is defined in terms of cultural, infrastructural, economic and political characteristics of nations or regions which make the use of traditional/standard information gathering and dissemination techniques and approaches unsuitable. The potential role of CD-ROM based access to information in this context is described. CD-ROM and the prerequisite microcomputer support are noted as being capable of playing an important role in overcoming some of the constraints associated with information isolation. The paper explores the considerations for planning training for CD-ROM adoption in the developmental context. Suggestions for appropriate approaches to these considerations are advanced.
