摘要

A key problem of systems engineering is how to break down a system into its principal subsystems or components and their interfaces. The traditional approach relies on intuition & past experience, both are heavily influenced by the conventional taxonomy of academic disciplines (mechanics, aerodynamics, electronics, economics, etc). This intuitive approach is being supplemented by emerging disciplines (risk analysis, environmental concerns, ergonomics, etc). Increasingly it is being found that traditional approaches no longer satisfy modern holistic aspirations. The problems are too diverse whilst being increasingly tightly coupled. An effective multidisciplinary approach is required. This paper discusses the application of Q-analysis to the problem of identifying subsystems & interfaces.
