摘要

Boiler steam drum water level measurement using differential pressure transmitters traditionally includerncondensate pots located in the reference leg. Originally, the condensate pots or reservoirs were requiredrnto provide the additional fluid volume necessary to minimize the errors caused by the high displacementrndifferential pressure transmitters that were in use. Today’s differential pressure transmitters essentiallyrnhave no volume displacement. Based on the earlier design criteria, there is no longer a need to providerncondensate pots on the reference leg. Even though there are many successful installations that do notrninclude a condensate pot, they continue to be applied on the majority of installations. Their continuedrnuse is rationalized by a number of reasons such as that they provide additional volume to minimizernerrors from flashing in the reference leg or that they are needed to provide the heat transfer surfacernneeded to condense the steam. This paper will discuss flashing, heat transfer, and cooling of steam as itrnapplies to the application and sizing of condensate pots for use with drum level measurements. Thernpaper will also discuss the overall mechanical installation and freeze protection requirements of therncondensate pot, reference leg and sensing leg of the drum level measurement.
