Static and Fatigue Testing of High Performance Concrete Members

In the frame of an ongoing research project at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS)rnhigh strength concrete members reinforced with high strength steel and GFRP-bars have been testedrnunder static and fatigue loading. Beams with a span of 3.0 m and columns with a slenderness ratiornof 69 were tested under static loading. A series of beams reinforced with S670/800 steel was alsorntested under high cycle fatigue loading. The bond behaviour of the reinforcement was checked withrnpull-out tests. The column tests resulted predominantly in buckling failure. The behaviour of thernsteel-reinforced beams was satisfactory, resulting first in yielding of the steel and finally crushing ofrnthe concrete in the compressed zone. Under cyclic loading, the failure was mainly caused by thernfatigue of the reinforcement. In general the tests proved that the combination of high strengthrnconcrete with higher grade steel reinforcement leads to a better utilization of the concreterncompressive strength.
