摘要

Nowadays light alloys, and specially aluminum, are of great interest in automotive industry due tornits possibilities in weight reduction. In the present work static and fatigue behavior of anrnautomotive component, made through green sand casting of an aluminum alloy, have been studiedrnin order to understand how casting defects and the process itself affect ultimate stress, elongationrnat fracture and fatigue life.rnThe study of static properties involves Young modulus, yield stress, ultimate tensile stress andrnelongation at fracture. These properties will depend on the component’s region we study, sincernthe sand casting process is influenced by the geometry of the component; the corners, thickness,rninner radii and other geometrical characteristics of the component. The study of fatigue and therninfluences that this particular process has on it lead us to the determination of the E-N curves forrnthis aluminum alloy in this component, and also to understand the fatigue behavior of sand castingrnaluminum alloys. Finally, both studies will allow a better design for the safety component,rnoptimizing it from the durability point of view.
