Fabrication of Zirconia Coating on the Surface of Al_2O_3-SiC-C Castable

Using zirconia Sol as zirconia source, zirconia coating has been fabricated on the surface of Al_2O_3-SiC-C castable by spraying technology after pretreated at 110℃, 300℃, 500℃, 700℃ and 900℃. The oxidation resistance of Al_2O_3-SiC-C castable with zirconia coating was compared with that without coating, at the same time using microanalysis technique, effects of pretreatment temperatures and spraying times on the fabricated zirconia coating were investigated. Results suggest that better zirconia coating might be achieved after pretreated at 300℃ and spraying one time. At this condition, fabricated zirconia coating has good continuity, closely bonded with substrate castable and even has a little penetration into the castable, and thus improved the oxidation resistance of Al_2O_3-SiC-C castable.
