摘要

A series of computational models were used to investigate cellular and network mechanisms associated with long-term ponto-geniculo-occipital (PGO) enhancement (LTPE) in cats. We hypothesize this is caused by M2 muscarinic receptors on bursting cells in the pedunculopontine tegmentum (PPT) activating second messenger-mediated plasticity changes. Robust results confirm the centrality of this process at the network level, and suggest cellular and network mechanisms involved in maintenance of rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep state behavior.
