The paper explores the effectiveness of a single-mass active system for protection against vibration. It proposes controlling the system by an actuator that exerts extra force action upon the mass protected against vibration. A linear DC motor (LM) is considered as such an actuator. The introduction substantiates the necessity of such a research and describes the state of the art. It exposes the best-studied issues and prospects for further research. Differential equations of vibrational-system dynamics are derived from a single-mass vibrational model (a second-order Lagrange equation). Transforms are used to produce transfer functions (TF) that link the output variables (displacement and vibrational acceleration of the protected object) to the disturbance action. The researchers have developed a combined vibration protection system and present herein the mathematical models of its basic functional elements. They have synthesized a communication-channel disturbance-based controller and tested the effectiveness of a system using such a controller. Extra feedback on the vibrational acceleration of the protected object has been tested for feasibility. A combined system using both acceleration feedback and disturbance feedback has been tested for effectiveness. The paper ultimately presents the research findings.
