摘要

Fracture experiments using micrometer-sized specimens are an important tool for a betterunderstanding the basis of the involved fracture mechanisms. The contribution will address thepeculiarities, possibilities and limitations of such miniaturized experiments, especially focusing ontesting of notched cantilevers. The possibilities are widespread,as these experiments enable toprobe just a very limited volume, which can be useful for testing e.g.specific microstructural features, thin films or irradiated materials. The limitations, however, are the difficulties in a correctevaluation of such experiments.Until now, published works in the field of micro-fracture experimentsused materials of high strength and/ or low toughness. But what about other materials? In this contribution it will be focused on fracture experiments using bcc tungsten;these experimentsare performed in-situ in a scanning electron microscope.
