摘要

In this paper some results are presented of two studieson the characterization of solid insulating materials bymeans of their threshold for electrical aging. Short termtechniques are proposed to determine the threshold.The paper is authored by the universities of Bolognaand Delft. At both locations a similar technique wasused to infer a threshold for electrical aging, albeit fordifferent types of insulating materials. In Bologna semi-crystallineXLPE materials were studied that are meantto be used in HVDC polymer cables. In Delftamorphous Polycarbonate materials were studied thatare commonly used in combination with oil in non-energyinsulating systems like X-ray and radar. Formost materials a threshold was found. Thresholdsobtained by space charge measurements using the PEAmethod and by conduction current measurements are ingood agreement. In the course of an aging process thethreshold shifts, making it an indicator of an ongoingaging process.
