An important goal of spatially distributed hydrologic modeling is to provide estimates of streamflow (and river level flood forecasting) at any point along the river system. Research into semi-distributed modeling has been limited despite this potential benefit when compared to lumped approaches. Available spatially distributed estimates of precipitation provided by the NEXRAD radar network, high resolution Digital Elevation Models (DEM), and soil, landuse, and vegetation data can be integrated into an improved system for distributed hydrologic modeling that provides more accurate and informative flood forecasts
