Located in the South China Sea, Guangdong Province is sufferingsevere storm surge disasters almost every year. Effective prediction ofstorm surges can protect life and property safety of residents who livingalong the coast. In this study, the three-layer feed-forwardbackpropagation neural network was applied on predicting storm surgeduring typhoon in Denglongshan. This paper selected Typhoon Hagupitand Koppu for model training and verification respectively. Thecomparisons between model predictions and observed storm surgeseries indicate that model predictions of storm surge hydrographreasonably follow the general trend of the observations. The ANNmodel could be used to predict the storm surge during typhoons andserve for the flood warning and protection system.
