摘要

Synthesis of new materials with important physical properties is one of the most significant task in modern science. Quite often huge synthetic work in multicomponent systems is needed to solve this problem by traditional methods. To make it in an optimal way different new approaches are under development now. Structural design is one of the most powerful technique, which can successfully predict the existence of new compounds with desired properties. In its frame relationships like "chemical composition - structure - properties" should be considered and possible new structures can be proposed. For about 10 years structure design has been successfully used for synthesis of new superconductors at the Inorganic Crystallochemistry Laboratory at Moscow State University. For instance, Hg-based superconducting Cu mixed oxides were predicted by such approach. In this paper the main features of these superconductors including synthesis, structures, and properties will be described together with a brief introduction how structural design was applied for the discovery of these materials.
