A good white liquor plant performance is important not only in terms of the quality of the white liquor which will feed the digester but also in relation to the the white liquor production costs, including chemicals, energetics, utilities, and general plant maintenance costs. Cost control is an important issue, since more and more companies target low production costs to ensure they remain competitive. In this respect, some points must be considered for the correct operation of the white liquor plant. Examples of good operational procedures for efficient plant performance and minimizing non-scheduled shut-downs include control of the amount of fresh lime added to the system, correct operation of pressurized filters (green liquor and white liquor) to improve the compressed air consumption, the correct operation of lime mud filters for maintaining kiln heat consumption within guaranteed values and the control of lime kiln shell temperature.
