Semi-passive control vibration systems by non-linear methods experienced a strong development these last years, due to their effectiveness and advantages compared to other approaches. In particular, the SSD (Synchronized Switch Damping) technique leads to a very effective attenuation. The SSD technique can be improved by switching on continuous voltage sources that result in enlarging the conversion energy cycle. This method, called SSDV, is almost as effective as active techniques, but may generate instabilities. This paper deals with these particular problems focusing on CICO stability (Converging Input, Converging Output) and robustness, considering a theoretical and a technological point of view. Besides, an improved SSDV is proposed, using matched continuous voltage sources. Stability and robustness are discussed using the first harmonic method. It is shown both theoretically and experimentally that the enhanced SSDV is much more stable than the classical SSDV.
