摘要

Bamboo scaffolds have been used in China for over a few thousand years, and both the basic framing systems and the erection methods for bamboo scaffolds in building construction were established through practice about two thousand years ago. Bamboo scaffolds provide temporary access, working platforms for workers and supervisory staff, and also prevents construction debris from falling onto passers-by. In order to promote the effective use of bamboo scaffolds in building construction, a research and development project titled 'Bamboo Scaffolds in Building Construction' was undertaken at the Research Center for Advanced Technology in Structural Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1999. This paper aims to present the major deliverables and findings of the project.
