In references (Wang et al 1999) and (Wang et al 2001), the seismic responses of frame-shear wall structures with shear wall cutoff have been studied and it is concluded that not all frame-shear wall structures need to extend their shear walls to the height of the entire structure. Continuing from references (Wang et al 1999) and (Wang et al 2001), in this paper the structures are to be analyzed using a member system-storey model under simulated earthquake excitations. The magnitude of interstorey drift is a key index to the amount of structural and nonstructural damage expected in a given storey. Therefore, the study is aimed at determining numerically the effect of shear wall cutoff on storey drifts in frame-shear wall. Contrasting the results to the result from the shaking table, it has an agreement with each other. Finally, a conclusion is given that terminating the wall at the midheight does not affect earthquake response detrimentally, if the shear wall is taller, the effect on the storey drifts is not significant.
