摘要

This paper presents the results of several studies on the influence of different envelope characteristics to the energy behaviour of flats in high-rise residential buildings in Hong Kong. These studies investigated into the effects of various conventional facade treatments, including variations in the wall thickness, the window-to-wall area ratio and the shading coefficient of window glass, and the provision of shading "devices, such as overhang and side-fins. In addition, the effects of applying thermal insulation at different positions within walls, partitions and doors, and of insulated walls and doors in different parts of the building fabric were investigated. The impacts of these factors on the yearly cooling load were evaluated using the software HTB2, which is a detailed building heat transfer model. These studies showed that the use of glazing of better performance would be the most effective in reducing the yearly cooling load in a residential building, by up to 13%, and applying thermal insulation could lead to a reduction in this load by up to 10%. Key considerations to be given in determining where to put insulation are described and areas for further investigations are outlined.
