摘要

The water quality in a harbor may be conserved or even improved just by replacing some segments of an existing breakwater by the seawater exchanging breakwater which is capable of introducing sea water into the harbor only by utilizing the wave power. In order to maximize the water exchange, the unidirectional flow ensuring net influx through the breakwater should be first attained. In the present study, a rubble mound breakwater with the seawater exchange capability is proposed to be such that its cross-sectional feature strengthens the unidirectional flow. Hydraulic experiments are performed to clarify its hydraulic characteristics, and empirical formulas for predicting its inflow rate are proposed. The effects of the water level and the width of wave chamber on the average inflow velocity are also evaluated.
