Since 1976, five representative beach profile lines have been surveyed monthly along the 3.6 km long Collaroy-Narrabeen Beach using the Emery method. The present study incorporates two new survey programs concurrent to the conventional surveys: 1) monthly RTK-GPS surveys (since May 2005) of each profile line and the entire sub-aerial beach, and 2) high frequency image-derived (Argus) surveys (since July 2004). Using the high accuracy RTK-GPS as the control dataset, the overall error (in the vertical) of this multi-decadal dataset was found to be ±0.13 m, which translates to a beach width error of ±0.99 m. Argus data shows that the beach is very dynamic and the signal is an order of magnitude higher than the noise associated with this error. Three dimensional RTK-GPS surveys show that the five profile lines are well correlated with the observed beach trends.
