摘要

The origins of computational science (CLS) can reasonably be associated with the seminal work of Enrico Fermi, John Pasta, and Stanislaw Ulam which took place in the mid-1950' s. The CLS field has developed enormously since then and has reached the stage where verification and validation are key to future developments. The lag time for the transfer, of this interdisciplinary research approach toward problem solving, to the educational system has been considerable, but the rate of program development in the academy is now increasing. The general outline of that development and some example programs are discussed.
