摘要

Several recent advances in the theory of Zagreb indices are summarized. A pair of molecular descriptors, denoted by M, and M_2, was introduced 35 years ago (1972) and three years later (1975) used as a branching index. These descriptors were given different names, but the term Zagreb indices appears now to be generally accepted.3 Their uses in the period of 1972-2002 was summarized in the review article by Nikolic et al. In this period the following versions of the Zagreb indices have been introduced: the modified Zagreb indices, the Zagreb complexity indices, and the overall Zagreb indices. Since this review was published, unexpectedly a number of articles appeared reporting various mathematical aspects of the Zagreb indices. Some of these results will be discussed in this report.
