摘要

Higher education must change its delivery methodology to keep space with social changes. This is the era of the Virtual University (VU). Thanks to widespread access to the Internet, Web-based instructional resources are now blossoming. Many virtual universities on the net nowadays offer complete and comprehensive services for students. However, at the student-end, there is little work done to help them deal with the information from the sea of data. It's rather a boring and time-consuming job to study in a VU. Fortunately, the notion of intelligent software agent has emerged to address this challenge. In this paper, we present a model —Student-End Model (SEM) which will act on behalf of the student and it's just the application of intelligent software agent in VU. The model comprises of two agents: interface agent and information agent. They collaborate to present a pleasant, convenient and relaxing interface and hide the complexity of searching, downloading and filtering behind the interface. It is just like a personal tutor who guides the student to study comfortably in a VU. We believe it is significant to VU studying.
