The pressure leaching of synthetic chalcocite, obtained from ammonia solutions using S and SO_2, was studied. About 50% of the copper was leached from the chalcocite in less than 30 minutes, using 4 bar of oxygen pressure, 130-150 g/L H_2SO_4 and 60? in a pressure reactor. These results are independent of the acid and copper concentrations in the solution. In addition, it was shown that the anodic residue (CuS) can replace elemental sulfur in the precipitation reaction with a similar behavior.
