摘要

Westfield P,l Bridge was built in 1969 and is a post tensioned seven span continuous bridge with an overall length of approximately 260-m. Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd was commissioned in 1997 to carry out a Special Inspection of the Post Tensioning System in accordance with UK Highways Agency Standard BA 50/93. As a result of this inspection, and a subsequent load assessment, and due to matters unrelated to the condition of the post tensioning system, the bridge was closed to all traffic because of serious structural inadequacies Following temporary strengthening, the bridge was reopened to limited traffic while permanent strengthening was designed and procured. Innovative Design and Contract Procurement methods have allowed the bridge to be strengthened quickly to allow the bridge to be opened to unrestricted traffic. This paper describes the lifecycle of the project.
